Dr Anna Spenceley
Dr Anna Spenceley FRGS, has more than 20 years of experience on diversity of sustainable tourism initiatives globally. Dr Spenceley has led publication of many landmark publications on sustainable tourism, including for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the European Commission and the World Bank Group, and compiled the Handbook for Sustainable Tourism Practitioners: The Essential Toolbox. Between 2010 and 2023 Anna was chair of the IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist Group (TAPAS Group). Anna is part of the UN World Tourism Organisation’s Panel of Experts and is a member of the Independent Advisory Group of Travalyst. She is a Senior Research Fellow with the University of Johannesburg, and she is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism and Tourism Planning and Development.
