Melissa Jean Barnhard-McClurg / Nawhea’mowhah
My English given name is Melissa and my traditional name is Nawhea’mowha. I am from the Lekwungen peoples, more specifically, I am from the Songhees nation. My family roots are connected to the Dick family. My late grandmother is Janet Dick, and my mother is Terrie Barnhard. I have lived within our homelands almost my entire life and I have re-connected with my family roots and culture 5 years ago. I am a Senior Cultural Tour guide with Songhees Tours and have been sharing our stories, history, culture and language since 2021. I have been working within our community in many roles throughout the years. I am a singer, canoe puller, artist, ambassador, storyteller and Cultural Support worker. I am grateful to get the opportunity to share out our people, on our lands from my heart.
