Laura Griffith-Cochrane
Laura likes limpets. And nudibranchs. And rockfish. In the Ucluelet Aquarium, Laura has worked as a biologist and story teller for nearly two decades. As the Executive Director, Laura strengthens and grows connections between us and the interwoven species and systems that support us all.
As the first collect-and-release aquarium, Laura and the Ucluelet Aquarium team collect fish and invertebrates from the Clayoquot and Barkley sounds, and return these back to their salty homes each season.
Through hands-on learning, storytelling and creative displays, the Ucluelet Aquarium nurtures the spark of understanding that we live in an interconnected world.
Laura has previously worked with the Thornton Creek Enhancement Society, and Surfrider Pacific Rim as the Rise Above Plastics lead, and successfully supported the Ban the Bag campaigns in Tofino and Ucluelet. Two communities that have taken on leadership roles in our province to reduce plastic waste.
