Dr. Michael Pidwirny
Michael is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographic Science at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus.
Michael’s research at the University of British Columbia is focused on two themes related to human-caused climate change. The first theme studies how human-caused climate change alters winter temperatures, snowfall, rainfall, and ski season length at ski resorts in western North America. This is done by analyzing historical climate data and using climate simulation models to forecast future changes up to the end of the 21st century.
The second theme of his research investigates extreme weather and climate in British Columbia and in Asia’s megacities. Of particular interest in this study area are maximum daily temperature extreme events and heat waves.
